Besides the Everest region, the area around the Annapurna mass,is perhaps the best known trekking destination in Nepal. Based on sheer numbers of visitors, it is certainly the most popular trekking destination. As the title suggests, the centre piece of this part of Nepal consist the range of mountains that includes Annapurna I, the first of the 8000 meters peaks to be climbed. Also included in this general area is another 8000 meter giant, Dhaulagiri, which is located to the west of Annapurna I. Between these two mountains runs the valley of the Kali Gandaki river, the deepest gorge on earth.
The area around the Annapurna massif is one of the best trekking destinations in Nepal. As can be imagined, the range of geographical and climatic region has led to a diverse variety of flora and fauna within the Annapurna Region. The most prominent ethnic groups in Annapurna region are Gurung, Thakali and Managua. Upper mustang is the perfect destination during the rainy season. Spring, autumn season and June to September are the best season to visit. The spring season is good for wild flowers specially rhododendrons. Dhaulagiri Circuit, Annapurna Circuit, Annapurna Sanctuary,Jomsom and Muktinath, Annapurna, Upper mustang, Mustang foothills are the amazing destination for trekking in Annapurna region.
When to visit? Or When to trek Annapurna Region
Among the variable seasons of Nepal, the best time to visit is during Spring and Autumn season .Spring is the time for rhododendrons while the clearest skies are found after the late monsoon rain of September , October and November. At these times, the weather is generally mild and there is less rain fall.
Unlike other parts of Nepal, the monsoon starts from June to September, is the ideal time to visit parts of the region that falls in the rain shadow. In particular, upper mustang is the perfect destination during the rainy season. The winter months provide good trekking conditions throughout the foothills but sometimes, some of the higher passes will be closed due to snow.
